Mini Chocolate Dipped Donuts

Donuts may seem like such a hard and challenging dessert to make, but that’s so far from the truth. This recipe is so easy and simple, but most important they are so delicious. They’re the perfect bite size pieces. They’re made with a light, pillowy soft and airy dough, dipped in the most luscious chocolate glaze and topped with rainbow sprinkles. 

Ingredients For Mini Chocolate Dipped Donuts

  • Unsalted Butter: Using unsalted butter allows you to fully control the amount of salt going into your cookies.

  • Granulated Sugar: The granulated sugar is for the donut batter.

  • Powdered sugar: This recipe uses powdered sugar for the delicious chocolate glaze.

  • Buttermilk: The buttermilk is used to help rise the donuts as well as to make them soft and airy.

  • Eggs: Two eggs are used in this recipe to bind everything together.

  • Vanilla Extract: Will give the donuts a depth of flavor.

  • All Purpose Flour: The all-purpose flour is perfect for these donuts, it creates a tender and soft donut.

How To Make Mini Chocolate Dipped Donuts?

  1. Spraying: Spray 4 (6-well) donut trays

  2. Mix dry ingredients

  3. Mix the wet ingredients into the dry

  4.  Fill the pans about 1/2 of the way full with the dough

  5. Baking: Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the donuts have puffed up, and a skewer inserted din the middle of the donuts comes out clean.

  6. Cooling: Let cool for 5 minutes in the pan before removing

Now, let’s talk about how do you make buttermilk at home? If you don’t have buttermilk, or don’t know where to buy it, well you're in the right place. Buttermilk might seem very hard and challenging to make, but in reality it’s a lot easier than you think! If you don’t have buttermilk, there are a few substitutions that can be used, such as, lemon juice and or vinegar that is mixed in with milk. You can also use powdered buttermilk according to the package directions!

However, for this recipe if you're making your own buttermilk than for the amount of milk in the recipe which is 3/4 cup of milk add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice.

Serving size

  • Around 24 to 30 cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 4 tbsp butter, melted

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Chocolate Glaze

  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 4 tbsp butter, room temperature

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 tbsp hot water

Topping

  • Sprinkles

Instructions

Step 1

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177C). Slightly spray 4 (6-well) donut trays. Set aside.

Step 2

  • In a large bowl, whisk the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another medium-sized bowl, mix the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter and vanilla extract until incorporated. Add the wet ingredients into the dry and mix until fully combined. Transfer the batter into a piping bag and snip off the top.

Step 3

  • Pipe the batter into the prepared pans, about 1/2 of the way full. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the donuts have puffed up, and a skewer inserted din the middle of the donuts comes out clean. Let cool for 5 minutes in the pan before removing onto a cooling rack.

Step 4

  • For the chocolate glaze, melt the butter halfway through, then mix in the cocoa powder and place back in the microwave until completely melted. Fold in the powdered sugar, at this point the mixture will be very thick, so add about 2 tbsp of hot water to thin out the consistency or until desired.

Step 5

  • Dip each donut into the chocolate glaze and top with sprinkles. Enjoy!
